Basketball was introduced in 1917 and quickly became established in the country, with women’s basketball developing from the 1960s. Basketball has a strong presence in Sri Lankan schools and clubs, particularly in Colombo and the Eastern Province, providing excellent opportunities for boys’ and girls’ touring teams to compete against local opposition.

Netball, especially popular among girls’ schools, has a history dating to 1921, when the first recorded game was played at Kandy High School. Its strong school tradition makes Sri Lanka an excellent destination for women’s and girls’ netball tours.
